Hi,

Any chance of the route being mapped out on google maps etc the same as some of the other rides you do, so that I can transfer this onto my Garmin please?
The map provided is somewhat lacking in detail.

Thanks,
m

Hi, I would also be interested in a route for my Garmin.
Need to use www.bikely.com or www.bikeroutetoaster.com
After creating route save as .gpx
If you make the route public on the site then us Garmin users can download direct from site.
I expect there are a lot of people who would find this very useful.
Thanks

Hi all,

Given that no one else has responded...I've mapped out the route starting at Yarmouth using the gmaps pedometer site: http://bit.ly/randonnee2010

A couple of caveats: I'm not sure I've followed the official route all the way, in particular I'm not sure about Cowes or Yarmouth. Also, for the off-road bit between Freshwater and Yarmouth I just did a very approximate line, as I was too lazy to zoom in and trace it faithfully (it's all pretty flat there anyway). You'll probably want to do your own (better) map anyway if you're not starting from Yarmouth. There is a link on the page to a tool that lets you export the path to GPX format. I've tried it though and it puts in a 'turn' for every little wiggle in the road...so probably not of much use on your gps.

Looking at the elevations is pretty interesting. I'm planning to start from Yarmouth as it is closest to home (I'll actually be cycling 6 miles *back* along the route before I start), but I'm not at all convinced saving all the big hills for the second half is ideal, especially given the forecast. Just out of curiosity, what do the veteran Randonneurs think? Where is the ideal place to start, all other things being equal. I've noticed you start your club Randonnee in Godshill.

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Best,
Kass

Hi Kass - many thanks for this and bringing us into the 21st Century ;-)

I have updated the main website with the links and a mention! I've converted it to gpx in case someone wants to test... also available on the site.
